Vanshika Babbar b. 1998

Based in New Delhi, Vanshika Babbar is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, video, video/AR installations, zines, and graphic design. She holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts degree from M.S. University, Baroda, and a Master of Visual Arts degree from the School of Culture and Creative Expressions, Ambedkar University Delhi.

Her practice has been recognized through awards and residencies including the Experimenter Generator Grant, the Inlaks Fine Art Award, and the A4A Virtual Residency. She has participated in exhibitions such as Critical Zones at the Goethe-Institut, the Students’ Biennale (2020 and 2022), and TEXTXET at the FICA Reading Room, among others. Alongside her artistic practice, she works as a freelance graphic designer with organizations including Tricontinental and the Popular Education Initiative.

Drawing from found footage and objects collected from popular media and domestic spaces, Babbar’s work investigates the condition of middle-class life, the social absurdities produced under capitalist relations, and the ideological structures that permeate everyday existence across personal, familial, and social spheres. The materials she gathers are assembled through contradictions, humour, and irony, often presenting unresolved tensions rather than cohesive narratives. Through these juxtapositions, her work reflects on the complexities and inconsistencies embedded within contemporary life.
